clipping. have an early Halloween gift for us: a new single, “Pain Everyday,” from their forthcoming album Visions of Bodies Being Burned. The song uses EVP—or Electronic Voice Phenomena—recordings, of creepy sounds that are, according to the press release, “the voices of restless spirits.”
“This song was one of the most challenging to write because it’s the first time we’ve done a track entirely in ⅞, which, it turns out, is kind of a mind fuck,” lyricist Daveed Digg said. “I love how it came out because it’s in this odd time signature but the flow still feels natural, like rap is supposed to.”
clipping.’s last album, There Existed an Addiction to Blood, which came out just last year, is an example of the trio’s determination to fuse a horror aesthetic with hip-hop. Visions of Bodies Being Burned shows them delving deeper into this weird realm, with the help of a bunch of artists including Ho99o9.
