The fourth episode of the LA Phil’s online SOUND/STAGE series will air this Friday beginning at 10 a.m. PST, and this week we’ll see Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Andra Day, who will also soon star in Lee Daniels’ forthcoming biopic The United States vs. Billie Holiday. Her performance Friday will include renditions of her own songs “Rise Up” and “Gold,” as well as a cover of Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam.”
In addition to the performance, Day will join in an online talk where she’ll discuss her influences and how “Rise Up” has been an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement.
