No one was ready for Pinkshift. The unhinged quartet from Baltimore catapulted into the scene with the snarky pop-punk anthem, “i’m gonna tell my therapist on you.” Fronted by Ashrita Kumar, Pinkshift are using punk for its intended purpose: a void to scream into, a place to be pissed off. On “Rainwalk,” the band’s newest single, that anger is palpable through Kumar’s theatrical yells that clash with bombastic instrumentals, which all culminated into a strong post-hardcore tornado by the end.

“The lyrics are an ode to those awful instances when someone you know very well suddenly pretends like you don’t exist,” Kumar says of the song. “Experiencing that could set anyone off, and writing these words helped me to pin down that feeling and let it go.” Paul Vallejo adds: “Ashrita found this instrumental in my hard drive from 2016, and was like ‘I’m gonna sing over it,’ and ‘Rainwalk’ was born.”
