The year 2020 continues to astound. Billy Corgan, a man known for his hatred of nostalgia, is getting ready to wax nostalgic with a long look back at the Smashing Pumpkins‘ magnum opus, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God.
“The Pumpkins won’t be a nostalgia act, we refuse to be,” Corgan stressed back in 2011. “That would be the true death of the Smashing Pumpkins. We’re not operating with that safety net. That isn’t an option. That’s off the table.” Which makes the news that Corgan and company are planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary with a sequel album and tour all the more surprising.
For those Gen Xers and the people who love them, details on the Mellon Collie sequel and planned world tour are promised during a live stream Q&A set for this Friday, October 23. Registration is required to attend the Zoom session with Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and fans can also submit questions ahead of time via that same link. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. PST. Corgan spills some of the beans in the below announcement.
