For PBS’s long-running Austin City Limits program, like many other network shows with live musical guests, the show must go on. In spite of the restrictions still in place due to the current pandemic, the program is rolling out its 46th season in spite of the lack of audience in attendance. With Yola, John Legend & The Roots, and Bonnie Raitt all on tap for the season that kicked off at the beginning of the month—as well as tributes to John Prince and Stevie Ray Vaughn—this week will see Rufus Wainwright taking the stage for the first time in his career with a backing band composed of members of the groups Midlake and The Texas Gentlemen.
Ahead of tomorrow night’s broadcast, you can stream an exclusive clip of the band performing Wainwright’s “Devils and Angels (Hatred)” below. “We’re gonna stay in a positive mode and do this next song, which is called ‘Hatred,’” the songwriter deadpans before launching into the dramatic tune. Check it out, and watch the full set tomorrow night.
