Having released the Sharon Van Etten–featuring single “Lemon” and its succeeding “Statues in the Garden (Arras)” earlier this year, Local Natives have doubled their output with the release of their new Sour Lemon EP today, which packages both of those tracks with two more unheard songs. Recorded last year with Chris Coady, the project arrives a year and a half after their fourth LP, Violet Street.

“We’re always working on new music, but songs tend to come at their own pace,” the band shared this morning in a press statement. “There’s something freeing about writing without the goal of an album in mind. It feels like waking up for class only to realize that it’s Saturday and you can sleep in as long as you want. The songs on Sour Lemons each have their own long histories but they all finally decided to arrive at the same time. Rather than waiting, we decided to share them as soon as we could.”

With Loma Vista releasing the project digitally today, you can also expect a physical release on November 13, offering a special turquoise vinyl which will only be available at indie record stores.
