The Stardust saga continues. It was early last year when it was revealed that a movie about the life of David Bowie was about to go into production. The film was to be based around Bowie’s first trip to America back in 1971, with appearances from Marc Maron and Jena Malone.
The news of the movie was still reverberating around the world when Duncan Jones, Bowie’s son, was moved to talk about it on social media.
“Pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for ANY biopic… I would know,” Jones shared on Twitter. “I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dads music in it, & I can’t imagine that changing. If you want to see a biopic without his music or the families blessing, that’s up to the audience.”
Today, IFC Films shared the first trailer for the film. True to Jones’ word, there is no trace of Bowie music to be heard anywhere in the clip. Stardust is set to hit theaters and VOD on November 25. Marc Maron plays a record executive who believes in the young artist, which, along with lead actor Johnny Flynn’s transformation into Ziggy Stardust, makes for an especially engaging trailer.
