It was nearly two months ago that The xx co-founder Romy Madley-Croft announced her solo career under the mononym Romy with the dreamy electronic single “Lifetime.” While the club-ready track was already much livelier than anything Romy’s played with her melancholic band—though just as nocturnal—her second official release under the moniker arrives today in the form of a Planningtorock remix.

Tapping into her love of club music (and her side gig as a DJ, having been spinning wax since she was seventeen), the pairing seemed natural to Madley-Croft, who’s been a fan of Janine Rostron’s project for years. “There is so much fun, joy, and euphoria in this remix,” she shared in a press release. “I love the way they pitched my vocals—it’s so unexpected and playful and the instrumental elevates the song into another world. It has been amazing getting to know Jam as a friend over the past few years and connecting over a shared love of pop dance and club music from the ’90s/early 2000s, I feel like this remix combines so many of the elements that we spoke about both loving, I can’t wait to hear it in a club!”

“It was so much fun re-pitching Romy’s gorgeous, husky vocals to make this new melody and transform the song into a queer dance floor stomper,” Rostron countered. “Also really love Romy’s message on this track and wanted to take that already uplifting feeling and lift it higher.”
