In being a literal bedroom pop band—all three members mostly writing and recording their contributions in their respective bedroom—Tearjerker was prepared for 2020. While this has been their preferred method of composing their hazy, hypnagogic pop tracks for over a decade, they’d actually made plans to shack up and record together for the first extended period of time before opting to revert to the original plan when the pandemic hit, persisting in their quest to keep the short-lived, woozy electro-rock sounds that were supposed to soundtrack the 2010s alive.
Today they’re announcing March 19 as the release date for this release—an EP entitled Deep End—and sharing the first single, “Lost,” which matches the humming lo-fi sounds of their earlier years with a slightly more upbeat demeanor. “In the hauntingly upbeat song we reminisce, ‘It’s been one hell of a ride / I wanna go to heaven, but I can’t decide’ before a hum-along chorus that feels familiar and hopeful,” shares the band’s Micah Bonte. “It’s a letter to a friend that you couldn’t be there for, and a reminder to slow down and treat people well.”
