There was a time about a year ago when parties existed, when not being invited to a party would be stressful or even hurtful. The latest song from Brooklyn-based musician Half Waif, a B-side from her new 7-inch, centers around the personal renaissance that can occur from such a rejection. “Party’s Over” realizes that one’s worth isn’t contingent on someone else’s invite. On the outside looking in, Half Waif’s Nandi Rose keeps moving. “Now that the party’s over / We’re just getting started / Just keep walking,” she sings with her head held confidently to the darkness. It’s better outside. It’s liberating. “There’s a sense of richness at the margins, where the shadows darken,” Rose said of the song.

“Party’s Over” is about accepting yourself and embracing your differences, about not becoming an outcast to yourself when someone else doesn’t accept you. Rose posted that, “This is a song for remembering how good it feels to keep moving, letting the source of your discontent slide into the background til it blinks out like a distant star. A song for not just carving out your own path, but dancing down it. For accepting yourself for who you are. For casting aside the imagined ideals that scream at you like a neon sign: Never Enough.”

Half Waif has also shared a visual, which follows Rose walking away from a lively party. Through snow-covered streets the words “I wish I had known it then / I wish I could tell myself / Don’t do it for anyone else” hit her in real time over clanging drums and expanding synths. She walks on revived…although, it does seem odd she parked her motorcycle so far away.
