If you’re not aware of the gorgeous music Chicago-based musician Tasha creates, well, that’s what we’re here for! Her latest single “Would You Mind Please Pulling Me Close” is a stunning wash of waltzing guitars and live percussion that wind into anxious string arrangements. Written and produced with Gregory Uhlmann (a member of Perfume Genius), the song features subtle, wailing steel pedal-like sounds and water ripples; Tasha’s vocals are gentle and pensive. Despite the track’s relaxed composure, there’s an indelible sadness at its center. “Remind me what I’ve got left to come back to / We’ve less and less and less and less to come back to,” she sings.
In a statement, the singer explained the track’s influence: “I had just returned from my first touring run, and was reflecting on what home means when I’m far away from it, and how isolating and lonely it can feel to tour alone.” Although its inspired by her experience touring, these words are so potent to this difficult reality we’re in; even when vaccines are being distributed and the world is slowly opening up, nothing can go back to the way it was before. “It’s not that I miss home / I just miss not feeling so alone / I know my aching shows / Would you mind please pulling me close?” she yearns during the powerful chorus.
