In a fairer universe, we’d all be anticipating the expansive tour Elijah Wolf would likely be embarking on shortly after the release of his soothing folk-rock record Brighter Lighting—though in a less fair universe I guess we wouldn’t have the technological ease that would allow us all to congregate around our laptops simultaneously as the Brooklyn-based songwriter performs the album’s tracks to his fans. Tonight, Wolf will broadcast one such set over NoonChorus, offering up a teaser for the set in the form of his performance of the track “At Times / At Night” alongside Photay and Sam Cohen, who both helped out on the record.
The event kicks off tonight at 5:30 p.m. PST right here. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser for the concert below, and read on for a short statement Wolf prepared for the performance.
Growing up in the Catskill Mountains I was lucky enough to be surrounded by studios. One of my fondest memories from my childhood was walking over to the legendary Dreamland Recording Studio, and simply knocking on the door in search of an internship. The studio is built in an old church, and has been the center of creation on some of my favorite, most influential records. I spent my days after school sweeping the floors, cleaning dishes, getting coffee for clients, and getting to observe recording artists at work. A feeling I’ll never forget. During this time I got to be a fly on the wall for sessions such as Beach House’s Teen Dream, Dr. Dog’s Shame, Shame, and many others. Eventually my high school bands got to record there on off days. It was always a major source of inspiration, and I always told myself that one day I’d be back as a professional recording artist.
To return to Dreamland was an emotional and full circle experience for me. To be joined by Sam Cohen and Photay was an honor. It was also the first time Sam and I were back in the studio together since finishing Brighter Lighting at the top of 2019, and for most of us, was the first time making music with people in real life since the pandemic. Photay and I grew up together playing music, so to be joined by one of my best friends once again, in the studio we’ve always looked up to, felt incredible.
So, to celebrate the release of my new record, Brighter Lighting, Sam, Photay, & I brought the record to life, in its entirety and with new arrangements, live at Dreamland. Although we cannot be together in person, we spent time and thought in creating a special evening for you all. A thank you for all of the love and support I’ve seen around this record. This is from me to you. I hope it means as much to you as it does to me.
