The upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton about the groundbreaking rap group N.W.A has a red band trailer, which features an introduction by group founders Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. In the intro, Dre and Ice Cube drive around Compton reminiscing, waving at locals, and talking about their legacy and impact with fellow Compton rappers Kendrick Lamar and The Game.
The intro also features Ice Cube explaining, “What a lot of people don’t realize about N.W.A: it’s a nonviolent protest.” This of course precedes the red band trailer that, incidentally, is pretty violent.
Straight Outta Compton, in which Ice Cube is portrayed by his son O’Shea Jackson Jr., is out August 14. The film also stars Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Keith Stanfield as Snoop Dogg, and Paul Giamatti as manager Jerry Heller.
