If you were a child of the ’80s (or had older siblings, like moi) you’ve probably been taken on the wild dragon-filled journey that is The NeverEnding Story. I’m not going to attempt to explain the insanity of that film, but in the weirdest turn of events, one of the most gut-wrenching scenes has been sampled for the latest Alchemist track “Nobles,” featuring rappers Earl Sweatshirt and Navy Blue.

“Nobles” is the lead track from The Alchemist’s forthcoming EP This Thing of Ours, which comes out April 30. The child narrator from the ’80s film opens the track over lush looped strings: “Whoever let the sadness overtake him would sink into the swamp.” The two trade verses about calloused hands and growth. In the song’s Ryosuke Tanzawa–directed video there’s even a flashback to the two as young kids skating.
