Paloma—the group made up of Nick Marioti, David Sumner, and Jon Walker—is releasing their sophomore EP Aurora this year. We get the first look at it with the funk-psych concoction called “Lips,” which explores “a vulnerable nature and its destructive tendencies.”

“Lips” drips with desperation amidst tumbling guitar lines. The track opens up with the sound of storm and Stranger Things–like synths. The taste of an ex on stained lips. Lightning illuminating soaked clothes. A lover storming away with their things in front of mutual friends. These are the dramatic images evoked on the psych-pop group’s latest single like a modern day film noir. “Tell me baby, did you love me,” goes one searing line. It’s a hypnotic synth-pop gem that sits in the eye of love’s storm.
