It’s been six years since Modest Mouse released their last album Strangers to Ourselves (and 25 since their debut). Today, they’ve shared the news of Strangers to Ourselves‘ follow-up titled The Golden Casket, along with the single “We Are Between.” The album was produced by Dave Sardy and Jacknife Lee and recorded in Los Angeles and Modest Mouse’s Portland studio. The Golden Casket is scheduled for release on June 25 via Epic. The track list definitely looks promising with song titles like “Fuck Your Acid Trip” and “Never Fuck a Spider on the Fly.”
The visual for “We Are Between” shows a rainbow vomiting into a mushroom-covered casket, which then turns into a river of the gray scale. It’s a fitting representation of optimistic nihilism for a song with a chorus: “We are between / Somewhere between dust and the stars.”
