Shortly before the pandemic rewrote all of our plans, Aussie new wavers Crowded House had announced their first album in over a decade, as well as the news that the group’s new lineup would feature vocalist Neil Finn’s sons Liam and Elroy as members of the band. While Liam has made a name for himself as a solo artist, Elroy’s earned his spot in the group through years spent as a touring multi-instrumentalist for groups like Wild Nothing and songwriters including Connan Mockasin and his brother Liam.

But last week, Elroy Finn also announced his self-titled debut solo album, due out August 13—a record which, as confirmed by lead single “Lost Our Mystery,” will “evoke the weightless feeling you get just before you fall asleep,” according to Finn. Elroy follows that single up today with the equally relaxed “Excite Me Much,” a lounge-y, downtempo tune that boldly contrasts with its title. “The song ‘Excite Me Much’ I wrote the day after my brother’s wedding and I was very short on sleep and hungover due to the festivities of the night before,” he shares. “But the guitar just sort of played the line from this song without me thinking or trying too much.”
