Queens rapper-songwriter Deem Spencer released his breakthrough album We Think We Alone in 2018, which was then followed by 2019’s Pretty Face. Both albums featured lo-fi, minimal tracks that showcase Spencer’s striking lyricism, tender vocals, and soft-spoken raps. Today, Spencer is releasing his first music of 2021 with the single “Wife Wife.” The track features eclectic pop singer-songwriter Okay Kaya, recently off her strong two-album streak for last year’s Watch This Liquid Pour Itself and Surviving Is the New Living.

Produced by Coachwave, “Wife Wife” is supported by a mellow keyboard melody and staggered percussion, illustrating Kaya and Spencer are a match-made collaboration. Kaya’s vocals, veiled in reverb, wind through the track. “Wanna play a sick game / Is that barf on the bathroom floor or is it wedding cake?” On Twitter, Spencer said that “Wife Wife” was made two summers ago. “This song takes me back to the beginning of this latest chapter of my life and I’m excited to finally share it with you all,” he wrote.

“Wife Wife” comes with a sweet video that portrays Spencer and his newly betrothed. The two ride in circles on Citi bikes, take the subway, and dance. It’s a simple, pure clip that finds two people happily lost in their connection. Watch it below.
