Last Friday, Michelle Zauner released her third album as Japanese Breakfast. Jubilee proves to be a continuation of Zauner’s lyrical prowess and an examination of happiness’ woes, limitations, and euphoric highs. But that album wasn’t the only great achievement the artist released this year; this past April, she shared her memoir Crying in H Mart, which became an instant NYT‘s bestseller. Now, there’s even more joyous news for Zauner with the announcement that Crying in H Mart will be adapted to the silver screen.
Crying in H Mart will be produced by Stacey Sher and Jazon Kim. Japanese Breakfast will, naturally, be creating the film’s soundtrack. Zauner said in a statement, “It is a surreal thrill to have the opportunity to memorialize my mother in film, and I consider it of the highest honor to pursue that task alongside creative luminaries such as Stacey Sher, Jason Kim and Orion Pictures.”
