Frances Forever’s single “Space Girl” took off upon its release late last year, paving the way for the Boston-based songwriter’s EP Paranoia Party, which finally arrives this Friday via Mom+Pop. The single is a familiar expression of romantic interest aimed at someone outside of one’s orbit, whether it be due to the constraints of distance, relationship status, or any other obstacle.

Though, as Frances Garrett tells it in their “Neighborhoods” video, it’s actually inspired by an episode of Star Trek featuring a “hot space lady.” Filmed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Earth’s Penn Treaty Park, their stripped-down uke performance of the bouncy single adds another layer of longing to the track, as if the love of their life is actually separated by millions of miles and, perhaps, a layer of fiction. Watch their performance below.
