It feels like it’s been a lifetime since we’ve heard new music from Childish Gambino, though really it was just last year that Donald Glover quietly released his fourth studio album 3.15.20. Today, we’re graced with another lush composition from Glover in the form of a beautiful cover of Brittany Howard‘s “Stay High.” Gambino’s falsetto is cushioned by string arrangements and a thick drumbeat. It kind of makes me feel happy? Which isn’t really a surprise, considering a lot of Howard’s music makes life a little brighter.

Turns out, this isn’t a one-off cover, but part of the forthcoming album that reimagines Howard’s 2019 album Jaime. It’s called Jaime Reimagined, and it’s coming out this Friday, July 23, via ATO Records. There will also be Laura Mvula’s version of “Run to Me,” Michael Kiwanuka’s take on “13th Century Metal,” and EARTHGANG’s cover of “Goat Head.” Other reinventions come in the form of remixes from artists like Bon Iver, Little Dragon, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Gitty featuring Syd.

Listen to Childish Gambino’s version of “Stay High” below and pre-order the album here.
