This past week, Lakou Mizik—the multi-generational musical collective whose mission is to preserve their native Haiti’s music and culture—turned heads with an album-length collaboration with an unexpected guest: Joseph Ray from the Grammy-winning British electronic trio Nero. Creating a curious blend of traditionalism and futurism, the project was the result of coincidence after Ray happened upon the band performing while on a visit to Haiti.

Yet with Ray no longer hanging around the island, Lakou Mizik dove deeper into their catalog for their “Neighborhoods” set, landing on the percussive chant “Lakou Dogwe” and the more jam-rock “Is Fa Ti Bo” to perform. Watch the septet play through both tracks in the video below.
