If you were unaware, it is Kacey Musgraves season. After the underground-country-star-turned-pop-sensation released her beaming 2018 album Golden Hour, she’s returned with news of the follow-up star-crossed. Earlier this week she released the title track and also revealed that her forthcoming album will be paired with a feature film. Today, she’s released the second single, “justified.”

On “justified,” Musgraves is healing through the seasons. And, as we’ve all seen lately with the human impact on this planet, the seasons can be wonky. Detailing a fresh heartbreak, Musgraves sings about the summer fun and cries amidst a storm; she cries and then laughs in the middle of falling tears. “Moving backwards, hurt comes after / Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line,” she sings during the chorus. Musgraves delivers another descriptive song about the wavering temperature of a broken heart. There’s no tea here, only the candid revelation that the road to a mended heart is plagued with tempestuous weather.

In the accompanying video she weathers those changing winds. Watch below.
