The latest single from Wiki is titled “Roof,” and it finds him content and then conflicted. The lyrics paint a picture of the NYC-based rapper sitting atop his building with a view of the city that “stays the same but always changes”—a sea of faces always blurring below as he waxes poetic about his secret haven above. He digs at the paradox of New York City, a place that’s easy to fall in love with, and even easier to be heartbroken by. At one point, he wonders if he really wants concerts to come back. “I don’t know, that’s the only time I feel real / The times when I rap / Otherwise need to get me this cash,” he raps earnestly.

“Roof” feels like a fresh step for Wik, his delivery unguarded and his tone contemplative. Maybe it’s the relaxed production by Navy Blue that pairs well with the rapper’s disillusioned mindset. I guess we’ll find out soon enough how the the two city figures balance and feed off each other sonically, as the track comes with the announcement of Wiki’s next album Half God, which is set for release on October 1. The entirety of the new full-length is produced by Navy Blue.

The vibrant video for “Roof” was directed by Nicholas Stafford Briggs and it shows Wiki in many positions posted up on rooftops. Check it out below.
