Portrayal of Guilt‘s guitarist/vocalist Matt King, drummer James Beveridge, and bassist Alex Stanfield have already gifted us with one album this year called We Are Always Alone. But now they’ve brought us news of a signing to Run for Cover (with whom they released a great split single last year) and have another album on the way called CHRISTFUCKER. They’ve also shared the first single, “POSSESSION.”

And, man, it’s intense and pretty dark! “POSSESSION” leaves us with the image of a woman about to stab a man. He’s tied up and she’s willing to cut him from ear to ear. Cemented with distortion and eerie guitar plucks, the vocals transform from demonic screams to a straightforward delivery for the final lyrics. “I feel her anxiety / I feel her agony / I feel her desire to find her pain a new home in me.” If that doesn’t have shivers running through you, I don’t know, maybe there’s no hope for your soul.

“We think of it partially in the sense of scoring a horror movie,” King said of the CHRISTFUCKER track. “We wanted to create an atmosphere of anxiety and fear.” Yup!

Hear it below and pre-order the album here.
