Salvador Navarrete, a.k.a. Sega Bodega, first made a name for himself as the producer for groundbreaking dance acts like Shygirl, Oklou, and Zebra Katz. But last year, with the release of his debut album Salvador, we got a whole new point of view for the London-based artist. Today he’s returned with an intimate single called “Only Seeing God When I Come,” and it’s one of Bodega’s strongest tracks to date.

In an Instagram post, Bodega shared that the song came together with Donna Missal. “[We] wrote this song sometime end of 2020 and it spoke to me so I asked if I could have it so thank u infinitely. I have a real soft spot for topics on heaven I really dunno why.”

The glitchy track is supported with buffered drumbeats and gentle vocals.”Hanging at the gate of your love / I’ll be waiting for forever,” goes one tender line followed by the realization that heaven isn’t an attainable destination for Sega Bodega. “Heaven is a place you belong / I don’t even know where I’m from / All I see is God when I come,” he sings later. Sega Bodega continues to join intimacy with affecting breakbeat production and glowing vocals. The song itself sounds like it’s protected by its own otherworldly halo, or in another realm like the accompanying video, which you can watch below.
