A few months ago, Syd returned with her first new solo music since the release of her breakthrough 2017 album Fin. “Missing Out” was slow, pulsing, wounded R&B that found her liberated from a love that wasn’t doing her heart justice. But the music that’s followed has found her opening up to romance again. After that track came the classically titled “Fast Car” that rivals as one of Syd’s strongest songs to date. Now, we have another hit titled “Right Track” that features St. Louis rapper Smino.

Over sped-up, romantic guitars and shuffling hi-hats, Syd sings about how everything is going smoothly. “Don’t you love it when things go right? / Now can somebody tell me why you would fight that?” she stealthily sings during the chorus. Syd makes a compelling case for her love, knowing all the right moves and her lover’s specific tastes. Even then, she’s considerate of the pacing and not pushing the moment. “Tell me if it’s all too much, ’cause we don’t really need to rush,” she assures.

In addition to releasing “Right Track,” she’s also announced her only 2021 show. It’s free (!) and she’ll perform with he LA Phil conducted by Anthony Parnther at The Ford on September 22. There’s a limited number of tickets, which are up for grabs at 2 p.m. PST today. You can find those here.
