You can tell from the slippery, fizzing songs from Hayden Dunham, who releases music as Hyd, that she’s an interdisciplinary artist who interacts with scents and gases the same way she molds textured movements and music. Her latest single “Skin 2 Skin,” opens with tickling ASMR whispers. Accompanying her evocative delivery are electric images of cellophane, acid rain, balls and chains, and a hurricane, which take up space within the track’s opening 30 seconds.
Following “No Shadow,” “Skin 2 Skin” is the second single from Hyd’s forthcoming four-track EP, which is out November 5 via PC Music. Caroline Polachek co-wrote, produced, and engineered the mercurial single. Hyd said of the track: “’Skin 2 Skin’ is an electrified, oiled-up vector for self-ownership. It’s a visceral, saddle-up, switch anthem. This song is for the ponies of the world, you know who you are. It asserts that you get to be in your body on your own terms. ‘Skin 2 Skin’ is about my terms.”
