This has been another great year for JPEGMAFIA. He’s continued last year’s prolific streak with EP2!—the follow-up to 2020’s EP!—dropped a couple great singles including the recent “TRUST!,” and is planning to drop another album this year. Today, he’s returned with his newest song called “HAZARD DUTY PAY!”

Due to sample clearance problems, “HAZARD DUTY PAY!” won’t be available on streaming, which is a shame because it’s really fucking good. Peggy samples Anita Baker & The Winans’ “Ain’t No Need to Worry.” He takes the hopeful gospel track, chops the vocals, and smothers its tinkering drumbeats with a woozy bass melody. He flexes creatively and makes a lot of vegetarian jokes. The new track also comes with an extremely lo-fi video directed by Anthony Sylvester, which finds Peggy flailing and dancing, getting lost in the intensity of his words.
