Somehow it feels like just yesterday that we sent our photographer Daniel Cavazos to the eerily empty streets of Austin to capture SXSW 2020 at the exact moment the country was beginning to shut down completely upon the first wave of COVID concerns. Yet we’re a long way off from March of 2020, and even though we can’t fly the “Mission accomplished” banner quite yet, the prospect of a live (outdoor) music festival has proven to be a mostly safe endeavor in the wake of a few months of experimentation throughout the summer of 2021.
The latest of these, ACL Fest, kicked off in Austin over this past weekend, providing Cavazos with a very different type of subject matter than his last Austin-set shoot for us. With snapshots of exciting live sets from the first weekend of the fest—including performances by artists ranging from Tyler and Megan to Phoebe and Moses—you can check out his full photo coverage of the festival below.
