Do you remember 2018? Neither do I. But I do remember that Camp Cope released a great, great album many years back titled How to Socialise and Make Friends. Apparently, that was 2018. Woof. Today, the Australian trio has returned with a new single called “Blue,” which is their first new music since that 2018 album. It’s also the first single from their to-be-announced third album.
“Blue” opens with scenes of modern-day anxiety tied to technology—constantly checking to see if someone responded to a message, frantically double-texting. “I put down your pain, but I’ll pick it up again,” Georgia Maq sings. “It’s all blue, that’s why I fit in with you.” There’s Joni Mitchell and Eiffel 65, and now Camp Cope adds to the canon of great songs named after the depression-associated hue.
