British rock band Bloc Party have returned with a new single today called “Traps” that announces their sixth studio album Alpha Games, which is out April 29 on Infectious/BMG. Alpha Games is their first studio album since 2016’s Hymns and follows a slew of solo releases from vocalist Kele Okereke.

“Traps,” which was produced by Nick Launay and Adam Greenspan (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, IDLES), is powered by the adrenaline and lust of a sweat-filled dance floor. The drums punch forward like a steam engine and the bass moves alongside it at an angered pace. Okereke sings about his enchantment with someone who he calls a “snack” and is “cute like Bambi.” The predatory language matches the danger of the track’s instrumentals.

“From the moment we wrote ‘Traps,’ we knew it had to be the first thing people heard from this album,” said Okereke. “Playing it in soundchecks on our last tour before it was finished and hearing how it sounded in those big rooms and outdoors.”
