Over the weekend, visionary designer Virgil Abloh passed away. He was the founder of the brand Off-White and the artistic director of menswear for Louis Vuitton, and in addition to being an influential fashion designer and trailblazer he was also a DJ and designed or helped to conceptualize numerous album covers. Many artists including Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator have already released touching statements about his loss, and today, Chicago rapper Vic Mensa shared the song “What You Taught Us” as letter to the late artist.

“Virgil Abloh is synonymous with visionary,” Mensa said in a statement. “To see him go from DJing Superfun parties in Chicago that Hollywood Holt would sneak me in when I was 16 to revolutionizing the way we think about design and its applications is a true inspiration to a generation that was blessed to be raised under his tutelage. Legends never die.”
