At the beginning of 2021, blues songwriter Robert Finley revealed plans for his third studio album, Sharecropper’s Son, which arrived not too long after the debut record he released in 2016 at the age of 63. This latest project, though, saw Finley teaming up with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach both as a producer and a studio musician on the album, not to mention releasing the project through his label Easy Eye Sound.

For his recent “Neighborhoods” session, Finley headed to downtown Nashville to perform two tracks from this album, “Souled Out on You” and “All My Hope,” as grey skies threatened rain overhead. Joined only by an acoustic guitar and a backup vocalist on the latter track, Finley’s soft, soulful falsetto carries the performance in a new but compelling direction from the lush original cuts.
