Yesterday The Weeknd announced that the follow-up to 2020’s After Hours will be titled Dawn FM, and that it’s coming out in full this Friday, January 7.  The announcement came with a dimly lit trailer that teased ominous hooded figures and an aged Abel Tesfaye, while laser-like synths buzzed in the background. Credits flashed across the screen, revealing that the project includes the involvement of Quincy Jones, Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Oneohtrix Point Never, and, most notable, Jim Carrey.

Later that day, comedic collaborator Carrey tweeted about his experience listening to the upcoming album. He wrote: “I listened to Dawn FM with my good friend Abel last night. It was deep and elegant and it danced me around the room. I’m thrilled to play a part in his symphony.” One can only imagine the blissful moves that were thrown about. The Weeknd retweeted Carrey’s words with the reply: “Thank you for being a part of this. It’s kismet. Full circle *crying emoji*”

I would have been excited for the new project from Tesfaye regardless. But, his anticipated work with some of the true, true greats has me now counting down the minutes. See the Dawn FM trailer below.
