At the end of last year, Sasami Ashworth (a.k.a. SASAMI) announced her sophomore album Squeeze. The cluster of singles she shared revealed a mix of aggression and vulnerability, demonstrating SASAMI’s immense range and an exciting willingness to let her curious musical mind tinker in countless directions.

SASAMI’s latest single “Say It” furthers her refusal to be boxed into any particular sound; it’s an enticing industrial-metal/dance-punk ripper. There’s pulverizing guitar distortion, ominous vocals, and slapping drumbeats. But then, just as we cozy into the song’s menacing tone, it shifts into an unexpected hybrid of softer sounds. “‘Say It’ is a rage anthem dance track about spinning out because someone isn’t communicating with you,” Ashworth said. “I feel like when I hear the song I see a hot femme with a mystical flamethrower engulfed in emotional blue flames throwing elbows alone in an industrial dance club in outer space.”

Listen to “Say It” below, and pre-order Squeeze, which is out February 25, here.
