2015. Spoon’s Britt Daniels on La Blogotheque video

Last summer, Spoon released the incredibly solid album They Want My Soul. Beyond the first few singles that included the driving “Rent I Pay” and the melodic “Do You,” one of the full-length’s stand out tracks was “Inside Out”—a five-minute number with a bouncing beat and whimsical flourishes that showcased some of frontman Britt Daniel‘s best lyrics as of late. So, it comes as no surprise that the indie-rock group chose that song to play in its Take Away Show for La Blogothèque.

Set at the sparsely decorated Knockdown Center in Queens, New York (an old glass and door factory–turned–cultural center/art space), Spoon’s Daniel and Alex Fischel tear through a very stripped-down version of “Inside Out,” as well as a lively cover of the classic Ann-Margret track “I Just Don’t Understand.”

While the intimate session only featured two members of the Texas band, the entire quintet is heading out on an extensive spring US tour. Spoon will be playing a handful of shows at next week’s SXSWincluding the inaugural FLOODfest—so make sure to check out where you can catch the band below.
