“Against the Words,” the new single from LA-based songwriter Satchy, paints a compelling picture of multi-instrumentalist Satchel Brown’s downtime during the pandemic. Originally penned before COVID, post-production on the track came together in 2020 providing it with a new context and meditative sheen reflective of the considerably slower pace of living that became the norm earlier that year. “‘Against the Words’ is a song about how to balance love for yourself and for the people around you,” he shares of the track, which was inspired by the poem “Recreation” by Audre Lorde. “Learning how to not take time for granted facing all the hardships of life head on.”

The track’s smooth funk contrasts heavily with much of the panicked songwriting that rose up from the same period. It sets the tone for Satchy’s forthcoming collection of songs Warm Absence which will arrive April 22 via Babe City Records. “Fans should expect some more hard-hitting and funkier tracks on this album as well as more instrumentals and features,” he promises. “Songs that expand on this topic.”
