Liam Benzvi makes contemplative and romantic pop songs. He's gearing up to release his debut album Acts of Service, which was co-produced by Wet's Joe Valle, and today, we're sharing that album's title track, which was the first song Benzvi wrote out of the bunch. It's shaded by pearly, pastel synths and bright, springy guitars as Benzvi sings about darting pupils and romancing bodies. Benzvi plays with the multiple forms of affection and devotion, a.k.a. the five love languages—physical touch, words of affirmation, gift giving, quality time, and of course, acts of service.
“I wanted it to have a 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others' Smiths-type groove to it, and I think now it kind of sounds like Belle and Sebastian," Benzvi says. "It’s the love language I offer others, not the one I accept, so lyrically it dances around that idea.”
Of the album, Benzvi continues, “It’s about a shift of perspective and approach to writing where I’m reflecting on the world from a new place. For so long, I was writing from the perspective of other people and how I imagined they were experiencing me, and for this record I wanted to write through what I was feeling about the world and see what it looks like on the page.”
Listen to "Acts of Service" below—the album arrives this Friday, February 18, via Terrible Records.
