It's Thursday. It's a melancholic day—the weekend is in close reach, but still a large stretch ahead. It's the quintessential happy-sad day. And if you're looking to bend into that moodiness, I would highly recommend the latest single from the Toronto/Brooklyn duo of Joe Manzoli and Jon Nellen who make music as ginla. Lyrically and instrumentally, "You" is wistful bliss.

The new track is the follow-up to last month's "Carousel" that featured Big Thief's Adrianne Lenker, and which announced their forthcoming album Everything. Whereas that previous single was an elegant weave of acoustic guitar that steadily built upon itself, "You" is a refreshing wave of drums with hair-thin guitars and swimming synths. “You only have a finite memory, so you pick and choose the things you hold onto / Will it be you?”  Manzoli ponders with a soft delivery.

"'You' is about how easy it is to get lost in the fast pace of everyday life, chasing the future and holding on to the past," Manzoli said. "Written in the summer of 2019, during a period where I was constantly hopping back and forth between Toronto and New York every month, I couldn't help but notice how difficult it is at times to remember yourself, and who you are."

Watch the video for "You" below. Everything is out March 25 via the band's newly launched label No Content.
