In addition to owning Silent Pendulum Records, Michael Kadnar’s name can be seen throughout the experimental metal label’s discography, collaborating with signed artists including The Number Twelve Looks Like You and So Hideous. His latest project sees him teaming up with his romantic partner Lulu Black as the dirgey metal duo This Is Oblivion, with a debut LP on the way and a new single to announce the project out today. “The Truth” sets the scene for This Is Oblivion as an interesting blend of the spacious, hard-hitting doom metal of Body Void and the industrial noise of HIDE, not to mention the gothy theatricality of an artist like Chelsea Wolfe.

To better visualize the visceral space this group inhabits, “The Truth” arrives with a dark, forest-set music video directed by Brendan McGowan. “We spoke with Brendan about some of the specific imagery we had in mind, and together we came up with a visual narrative of pursuit, destruction, and transformation,” Black shares of the clip, which is full of images of chains and flames. “Working with Brendan was very organic, it felt like we were on the same page creatively from start to finish.”

“Brendan and I have been working together for years and we actually did the first and only music video for my old band Black Table back in 2016,” Kadnar adds, “and we also worked on the most recent So Hideous music video together—so when Lulu and I were looking for a director and videographer, Brendan was our first choice.”

Watch it below, and expect This Is Oblivion out May 6.
