LA-by-way-of-Maine musician Zach Hurd started making music as Bay Ledges back in 2015. What began as a low stakes bedroom project has now evolved into an abundance of singles, three EPs, and an upcoming debut album titled Ritual. Today, we get a new look at what Hurd has in store for the larger project with the single "Float." A fluttering of acoustic guitar, chirpy backing vocals, and cool-as-a-cucumber bongos lead us into Bay Ledges' bright indie pop world.

Despite the easy-going tone, "Float" unpacks difficult and dark emotions. "'Float' is about the complexity of grief," Hurd explains. "How it’s made me feel really heavy and alone, but has also inspired hope and led to some beautiful moments. I feel like the video strikes that balance of melancholy and lightheartedness."

The video he references was directed by Emerson Mahoney. "We shot it all while on tour for the month of February," Hurd says. "Emerson wanted to utilize some of these cool places we’d be driving through during the month. The character in the video leads this life that feels similar to what we were experiencing on tour: lugging your gear around, staying in a different place every night, and existing in your own little bubble."
