Remi Wolf released her debut album Juno last October (we chatted with her about it in the latest FLOOD issue), and today she's returned with a new collaborative single called "Pool" which she wrote with former tourmate Still Woozy, who also released his debut album If This Isn't Nice, I Don't Know What It Is last year. The song is accompanied by a dreamy video directed by Haley Appell.
"Pool" is a gentle indie-pop ballad about life's unknowable changeability. "I met my friend at the pool," Wolf sings, her voice gliding alongside acoustic finger plucking like bird's wing skimming against water's surface. "He told me things were going well / But not without the need to knock on wood." Both Wolf and Still Woozy splash in the waters of vulnerability and how feelings, dreams, and thoughts contend with each other. "I don't really know where my head's at / I just know that my heart's not there yet," goes the chorus.
“It was one of the quickest written songs I’ve ever been a part of," Still Woozy said in a statement. "Remi and I had been hanging out talking about life all morning, so the content for the song was fresh on our minds as we went to write. She recorded her verse in one take and we knew instantly it was something special.”
“'Pool' was such a beautifully natural collaboration—and is a great reflection of how life can just so seamlessly turn into art,” Wolf added. “It perfectly showcases mine and Sven’s comfortability with each other and how both of our wildly different skill sets can create something that feels so true to both of us. We went into the writing process with the intention of being 100% honest and specific with where we were both at that day and I love how when I listen to the song it feels like a true time capsule to both of our life situations at the time."
