Every day this month, FLOOD and Fender have been unveiling installments of our collaborative digital concert series titled the Vote Arts and Minds Sessions with the goal of encouraging folks to sign a petition to put the Arts & Music Funding Initiative—which would lead to increased arts and music education in public schools—on California’s November 2022 ballot. So far the series has featured sessions with artists including Joyce Manor, Claud, Geographer, and No Vacation, and today’s video comes courtesy of Local Natives’ Taylor Rice and Ryan Hahn.

The video opens with Hahn and Rice fondly discussing growing up together and bonding over their love of music in elementary school, contrasting band and choir practice from all the “dry stuff” they learned in other classes. “It’s so important for kids to have access to music education because it’s this huge part of life—music touches everybody’s life,” Rice shares before the pair launch into a performance of their new track, "Alpharetta." “If you have an opportunity to learn about music in school, that’s gonna help you to try and have a career one day in music.”

Check out their set below, sign the petition, and find more Vote Arts and Minds Sessions here.
