Interpol released their last album Marauder in 2018, and today they've announced their follow-up and seventh studio album called The Other Side of Make-Believe (out July 15) with the new song "Toni" and a fierce dance-fight video directed by Van Alpert. The new album took shape in 2020 while the now-trio worked remotely. “We really extracted the honey out of this situation,” drummer Samuel Fogarino said of quarantine. Guitarist Daniel Kessler noted: “Working alone was raw at first, but has opened up a vivid new chapter for us.” The final product came out of sessions in a rented house in the Catskills and in North London working with producers Flood and Alan Moulder.

The video for "Toni" is one of a two-part dance film. "We bonded over shared film inspiration as well as a passion for classic music videos by the likes of Glazer, Cunningham, and Jonze," Paul Banks said about working with Alpert. "Van, in my opinion, is in the club with these legends; and it's exciting to watch him build his own enduring body of work.” Alpert added: “I wrote a crazy idea that I felt was new for Interpol, a hyper-modern, cinematic dance film. A ‘lovers on the run’ story with a classic cliff-hanger ending. Dream job working for my all-time favorite band! Paul Banks ties everything together and elevated the concept, because he's naturally a great actor, artist, and collaborator.”
