We’re still a few months out from the release of Marta Knight’s new collection of songs Strange Times Forever, which was introduced with the hazy pop (and equally hazy music video) of its title track. The second sample of the LP arrives today with “I’m Here,” a track that more intricately weaves ambient electronics with pop sensibilities under vocals that recall the downcast bedroom exhalations of a group like Forth Wanderers. Lyrically, the track focuses on Knight’s spiraling thoughts in the midst of an anxious state.

“‘I’m Here’ results as an answer to oneself during an episode of anxiety and depersonalization,” she shares. “An anxious state is based on forgetting about one’s surroundings, letting the mind go through a stream of negative thoughts. These thoughts build the skeleton of the song, and the antidote to them is to remind oneself that things are more simple than we put them, and that the only thing we know that is certain is that we are here, in the moment.”

Meanwhile, the David Bustos–directed video for the single pulls from the same era of nostalgic imagery as the previous track’s visual, this time reliving what look like childhood memories under a VHS-quality filter—ironically displacing Knight from the present moment.
