If you’re new to The Mary Veils, the Philadelphia garage-punk rockers’ sound feels nostalgic for the early days of metal in the same way Ty Segall’s Fuzz project worshiped at the shrine of Ozzy and Dio. With that psych-addled vision of heavy guitars in mind, it makes sense that the video they’re unleashing today for their track “Jelly”—taken from their new album Esoteric Hex, which really sounds more like an Oh Sees title—sets these bad-trip sounds to a hellish animation by director BASS-TONE.

“A strange mass came from another dimension through portals that later were demolished,” the band explains, clearing up what, exactly, we’re watching if there was any confusion. “So unfortunately it was not able to go back, and stayed in Philadelphia.”

As for the song, the band cites it as one of their favorite live jams. “The drum pattern/feel, bass, and guitar, which sounds like an ambulance to me, couldn’t have added a more perfect feel to complement everything else.”
