MISZCZYK, the moniker of Ontario-based producer Nyles Miszcyzk, is revealing plans for his debut LP Thyrsis of Etna today, which takes the shape of a mixtape-like collection of instrumentals aided by vocal contributions ranging from cult producer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen, to rapper NAI, to a slew of Miszczyk's We Are Time labelmates. The opening track and first single from the collection notably features the instantly familiar voice of Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, who brings with her the avant-pop keys of that project which merge seamlessly with MISZCZYK’s percussive beat (not to mention his CHANDRA bandmate Kristina Koski’s chipper flute, which, as Miszczyk notes, “was the proverbial rug that tied the whole room together”).

“I’m so grateful to Marker Starling for introducing me to Laetitia,” Miszczyk shares. “The three of us wrote 'In the Dark' together through a series of emails and home recordings. The demo/writing stage has always been my favorite part of the music-making process, and writing a song with these two remarkable geniuses was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had.”

The track arrives with an intriguing stop-motion/digital visual inspired by the work of designers Mary Blair and Ray Eames. “Both Blair and Eames had wonderful studios full of toys, textiles, and furniture that they felt inspired joy in the viewer,” animator Jesse Yules adds. “I think it’s every artist’s dream to work out of a studio as amazing as Blair or Eames’, and to create work that makes the world slightly more beautiful.”
