The scenes depicted in payton’s new music video are fairly familiar, whether from our own experience or those depicted on TV and film—namely, crying while eating ice cream straight out of the carton. “I’d been in a relationship situation where I felt like I couldn’t do anything right,” the songwriter explains, “and I wanted to write something that digs deep and portrays that feeling of being stuck and not knowing what to do.” The result is “All Wrong,” a track that puts a positive spin on the post-breakup visuals it soundtracks, with the upbeat instrumental grooving with payton’s lyrics documenting the hopeful stage of a crumbled relationship that follows the depressing scenes depicted in the visual.

In penning a song about moving on in his personal life, the artist also shares that the track represents a huge step forward in terms of his songwriting. “‘All Wrong’ means a lot more to me than any other release,” he adds. “Beyond how it sounds, which I am very proud of, it’s the first step in a new direction. The doorway to a new phase of music. It’s been many months in the making and I’m very excited to share it with all my supporters.”
