We all know the famous sayings about best laid plans and the divine response to them—and yet we continue to make them, vulnerably thrusting ourselves into the chaotic randomness of the universe every time we risk it all by, say, stepping out to pick up the dry cleaning. This is the exact subject of the new single from Meija, which arrives today with news of the LA-based songwriter’s signing to Nettwerk Music Group.

“If I don’t play then I risk nothing,” Jamie Sierota sings on “Not Sure How This Ends,” a track sung through a heavy sigh as the songwriter contemplates his fate over acoustic guitar and a bustling snare before subtle piano and electric guitar cut in. “‘Not Sure How This Ends’ is a song about feeling at the end of your rope, the feeling of things being just out of reach,” he shares.

The visual pairs well with these themes, as it sees Meija’s casual errands take a bummer turn. “We played with this idea of plans never working out in the video,” he adds. “The scene where my moped gets stolen after a long day is actually a true story. I’ve had some distance from it now though and can laugh about it.”
